Germany has an excellent environmental system in place and are much less vulnerable to Arab oil cut-offs that they were 20 years ago. But the US under Bush has become more vulnerable to Arab oil embargos and much more reckless and short-sighted about all aspects of our environment. Don't forget, the war in Iraq is also mainly about oil, though US tax-payers don't get any of the benefits, just have to pay in money and blood.

Remember, the first thing Bush-Cheney did when they came into power was to call off all Kyoto Treaty cooperation, poo-poo global warming, give carte blanche to big polluters and to scrap hundreds of environmental laws, including allowing arsenic in our drinking water. This after Bush lied and claimed he was going to be The Environmental President. Christy Todd Whitman was so disgusted by Bushie pollution policies she quit as EPA head and wrote a book about it.

This is because Bush-Cheney represent the big polluters, and their loyalty is to them first and foremost. Bush-Cheney also allowed the massive Enron energy gouging and massive big oil gouging off and on ever since, lying to us that they can do nothing about energy prices. Like hell they can't. One phonecall by Bush to the CEO of Exxon or Prince Bandar could bring down energy prices by 10-20%.
