Steven O, I'm betting that ethanol becomes VERY economically
feasible when oil is at $75+/bbl and gas is at $4 gallon.
So just what does Kevin Hassett want the US to do? Continue
to pay billions to purchase petroleum at world market prices
indefinitely? We need to become more energy independent
and H2 is a lot less viable than ethanol as a realistic
fuel supply. He doesn't get it that as ethanol becomes
more pervasive that the subsidies go away over time. If
the infrastructure becomes economically viable then it becomes
self sustaining. Much work being done on modified organisms
to break down cellulose to its constituent parts so that it
can be more efficiently converted to sugars. To put it
bluntly, I totally disagree with the Hassett's narrow minded
views. BB
