Oh, what we sometimes have to do for principle! I once had an interesting discussion with someone on this. He believed that someone's behavior dictated the type of response he gave and that they deserve, and I believe that behavior should be governed by one's own standards. Whether Cheney was a nasty SOB or St Francis, he still should get fair treatment-- not because he deserves it, but because I just think it's the right thing to do. POlitics isn't the most comfortable place for my philosophy, obviously. But I am old and wore white gloves and a hat to teas in college.
