Agreed -- "booking" is something that is done only when a crime is committed.

OTOH, apparently if Whittington dies the law provides for questioning by a grand jury.

If so, this would add additional complications for Cheney. I mean, let's look at the worst case scenario:

1) Something happens to Bush that makes him unable to serve as President.

2) Cheney becomes embroiled in legal difficulties.

3) The Constitution provides that the Secretary of State is next in line to serve as President.

Maybe I am just a worry wart but it just seems to me that Rice is going to be made Veep sooner or later. And I surely don't have a problem with that.

You are right about the booking. My point is that the person committing the act should surrender to law authorities on their own as first step.

I have tried to argue with myself and thought he was too distraught etc. etc. But then yesterday Sen. Alan Simpson, his Wyoming buddy was on a talk show and mentioned that he knew Cheney very well and his conjecture was that CHeney is not coming out publicly on this is because it may become a political issue as soon as he does so.

Now that is something I just cannot agree with. As I had posted earlier, the American people are very forgiving especially when it is a tragedy/accident.

But the onus is on Cheney to come out voluntarily and not speak about it for the first time in public during a pre scheduled meeting on Friday.
