It also guilt trips you with a bit of language that says you should and the universe will be a better place if you do.

It's just psyching you out. Click "cancel." It won't hurt a thing. Really. It's just looking for bad spots on the disk. Closing it down is no different from closing down your browser or TurboTax or whatever else it is that you run on the computer.

Life is too short to spend bullied by Windows. <g>

There is a thread on S.I about computers called COMPUTER LEARNING.... If you are having any problems with your computer... anything at all they are just a wonderful group of people who will help you . I had something overtake my computer and the gentleman who monitors.. COW... answered my request for help and told me exactly what to do. I wanted to go to a router.. .They told me what to do. I wanted to get an MP3 player and download books.. same thing...

Try them for anything computer related.
