"... They say they are being responsible, sensible, respectful... "
As are the English media.

"The cartoons are perfectly benign and are not a criticism of the prophet"

Muhammed with a bomb in his turban? That's not benign and was never meant to be. Read Jyllands Posten's reason for publishing the cartoons.

"...Moslems who are protesting haven't even seen the cartoons and if they did, they obviously don't understand them."

They more than understood them, they understood the racist background for the cartoons.

"It's absurd that Moslems pretend to be offended. I think they just enjoy being rabid and violent and any excuse is a good one."

You generalize without any proof. I doubt that you can supply proof that "Moslems pretend...enjoy..."
Not a good basis for a discussion "so the problem can be properly considered"

Here is the time line:
Muslims come to Denmark in increasing numbers from 1968-1973.
General immigration to Denmark stopped, 1973
Increasing numbers of Muslims come to Denmark as refugees and reunited families. 1973-2000
Increasing demonization of Muslims.1980-present.
Little or no real integration. 1973-present
Dansk Folkeparti increasingly expresses racist attitudes towards Muslims. Court cases judge against Dansk Folkeparti 1996-present.
Denmark laws on immigrants considered to be Europe's strictest. for example Danes who are under 24 and marry a foreigner may not, in most cases, bring their spouse to Denmark.
Jyllands Posten publishes Cartoons, sept. 30 2005 Reason: to teach Muslims that Danes can insult Islam(their remark).
Protests by various Danish Muslim organizations. Oct-Nov. 2005.
11 ambassadors write to prime minister for a meeting. Rejected by prime minister. Jan 2006.
Danish imams complain to Egypt's foreign office. Jan 2005
Egyptian foreign office sends the cartoons to various sources for publication(latest news).

In the 60s folks like me protested for academic freedom. Today kids who call themselves liberals support the admins decision because of reasons of PC and moral relativism even if the women end up in burkas and the men are forced to grow non-hippie beards.

Hi Mq...Agree a lot with your statement here, but don't think the USA in general is 'afraid' of the Islamic Jihad...Although maybe some of the leftwing of our country may be.

The MSM media are the ones that are really afraid of it.

They don't print the so called "cartoons", which have caused havoc and death in many places in the world....but they do print every tiny nuance of the birdshot blast by Cheney this week.

They have taken a sad story, and embellished it with every sort of dripping innuendo that one can ever imagine.
