but hmmm... "their lives are crap"....

(we sometimes think that up here
in the frozen north.
why can't we have a little moderation?
seems that we go from freezing winters
to scorching, humid summers.)

i think the "marine" part of an
Emperor penguin's life must,
in some way,
compensate for the hardship
of attempting to raise its young.
once back in the ocean,
they are in such a different world
and are so incredibly mobile...
like flying through water...
albeit, sometimes chased
by leopard seals and killer sharks,
but wonderfully free nonetheless.
