Vichy France can be technically called a Nazi Puppet state. But it was also technically neutral. OK, this is all very OT.... especially given my original quip stating that we (UK) took out the Fr fleet from sheer force of habit. Nominally neutral, maybe - I don't know if it formally declared war or was declared as an enemy. But Vichy certainly didn't do anything that Germany didn't want it to do; for example it was (as is now proven) all too eager to send railcars full of Jews out to... well, whatever their fate was to be, to be honest I doubt they knew or cared. The destiny of a state like that is to be trusted by no one. Certainly France could have resisted far more effectively, at a far higher cost.
