There is top soil depletion and then there is top soil relocation.

Just what happens to the dust from the dust bowl when the dry winds blow it away?

In the 1960's I was stationed in North Texas, there were several storms that literally rained mud as a dust storm from West Texas, or West Oklahoma blew in dust and a storm moved up from the gulf, they met my car was covered with mud.

I would say that in this process that North Texas gained top soil.

River bottom land has the deepest and best top soil, where did it come from? It is top soil from the surrounding hills and mountains.

The Mississippi Delta is essentially all top soil, is it irretrievably lost, most likely, but then it is used for farming.

Proper farming methods protect top soil.

Leaving windbreaks and blocking water runoff are two things that can even increase your topsoil at the expense of neighbors.

you,re eating a delicious meal: You don't think about how the chicken was raised, or how the manure it produced was disposed. Or how the wine was brewed, or that mess in the kitchen, plus the pile of dirty pots, pans and plates, or into what that meal is transformed after digestion in what we call a lump of shit.

Don't know a single guy who have stopped eating because of those details.

Ethanol is the same thing, you don't think about that smelly stuff spread on the fields, or the smoke out of the destillery, or how the soil is worked out, or how many earth worms are cut into pieces when the land is re-plowed.

Stop reducing it ad absurdum.

No one will stop driving because of top soil.
