"Which browser do you use?"

Probably Firefox and Thunderbird.

I don't understand administrator privileges.

You can create users who use your PC. By default most computers come up as the "administrator". If you surf the Internet as Administrator, you open your box up to changes, such as installing new programs that don't tell you when it happens.

Create yourself a user and choose "limited" for account privileges. As limited you cannot add anything to the computer, only "use it". Even if you open an email with a sick attachment, it can't install itself because it doesn't have privileges. At worst, someone can hose the user, but not the whole box.

Linux is good because it is from Unix which required users to be created by default. Also most/all of the Internet problems are written for Microsoft products.
