"That's interesting.........its rise coincides with the rise of fundamentalist Islam. Its as if this whole thing has been staged."

Fundamentalism has been gaining a lot of ground across the globe. Inflexibility and intolerance can be empowering to those who feel they have no control. By narrowing choices, it makes a lot of people more comfortable. The lack of flexibility, though, is a problem when there are changes in the world. More often than not, they either have to hide from those changes, like Islam has been doing the past few centuries, or they break.

The third alternative is that they strike out......and that's what both fundamentalist groups are doing.....in some cases, with each other.

I'll tell you there is a storm brewing......not a hurricane...but a storm. Oprah Winfrey had a special on about Katrina, Rita and the Gulf Coast tonite. I couldn't believe what I was hearing and I've been following things down there. If LA had been treated the way the Gulf Region is being treated, all hell would have broken loose long ago.

I am amazed at what's not happening. Probably the most startling thing is that people are having to find the bodies of their dead relatives on their own.......often amidst the debris that has sat for six months in spite of all the huge contracts that have been let to clean it up.

[BTW in that six months, Oprah Winfrey has had 20-30 houses built in Houston for hurricane survivors.]

They showed $300 million worth of FEMA trailers sitting in the middle of a field doing nothing. I don't know what the Bush administration does all day but it sure as hell isn't about running the gov't.

And before you Bush supporters respond........I lived through one disaster recovery in a huge city, LA, and worked in another. I ain't never seen anything like what's going down in the Gulf Region. Frankly, you all, I don't think this gov't is functioning whether its the Gulf region, Iraq, Afghanistan, foreign diplomacy, the economy, Congress, et al. I think the gears have ground down and everything is simply running in place. God forbid anything else big happens in this country.

Mark my words........there is a reckoning coming!
