I've been telling you what has been happening in Beaumont, which isn't much. There is even less activity in the smaller towns, which took the brunt of the damage. Trying to get a loan through FEMA is impossible, FEMA doesn't exist. If your insurance company blocks you, you are SOL. And there are stacks of debris all over town. One thing I've learned about Oprah Winfrey is you don't want to take on the lady. She's pissed about what's happening in the Gulf region, and sees it as the poor people vs the rich and the gov't. And before she was rich, she was poor. One of the things that started happening during filming of last nite's show was that as Oprah, Anderson Cooper and Lisa Ling made site visits, FEMA would send someone out to meet them.....kind of like the energy group rehiring employees who were laid off before the Bush visit in order to make sure things look good. The Bush administration can snub mainstream media and the Gulf region all they want but a lot of people still watch the MS media and are seeing what's not happening in the Gulf region. And Oprah Winfrey's constituency......middle class and upper middle class white women......are 'stalker' loyal to Oprah. So unless the Bush administration gets on the ball, there will be hell to pay. Frankly, I think the reason why so little is happening is because there is no money.......I think the Feds are tapped out. And something important to note.......in the six months since the hurricane, Winfrey, a talk show host, not a developer, managed to have 20+ houses built and readied for occupancy. Meanwhile, FEMA has $300 million worth of trailers sitting empty in a field claiming they can't find water and sewer hookups for them. One last thing........having lived through a natural disaster, its hard enough to regroup and when no one is helping, its twice as hard. Those people don't deserve to be treated in that way because they maybe poor or blue collar.
