Even if Iraq ends up tri-stated, one interesting thing would be that the region has two Shia governments, with hopefully one of them being less theocratic. I think there are some benefits to the region, especially for Iranians to see that they don't have to live under their Mullahs thumbs. But the Iraqi Shiites might end up just as bad.

IF 3-states are coming, it will be the single biggest IMO effect of this war, because it will mark the most significant redistricting of old Colonial boundaries. I'd think the effects of that might cascade for quite some years around the ME and down through Africa. I'm not so sure it would be bad either. If 30 years from now the ME and African maps have lots more repartitioned countries and greater peace, perhaps GWB will be viewed as a true visionary, through no fault of his own however. :)
