School boards, teachers union criticize FCAT bonus plan

The plan would give raises to teachers whose students improve the most on the mandated exam.

I don't know how good or bad the FCAT is. I am sure its the equivalent of the WASL here in Seattle. Its the critical assessment for the No Child Left Behind program, a program teachers do not like.

If the FCAT is not a good assessment, then it will be difficult teaching to it.

But there is another point........you know how we talk about how messed up things in the country are......particularly about Americans and their reaction to Bush. Well, don't think the kids go unscathed in all of this. If things are weird on the parental level, you can be sure its bad at the child level.

I am beginning to see that teaching students in 2006 will be a daunting task. Having said that, I wouldn't want to miss a chance at a bonus. However, I have a funny feeling that the bonuses may lead to a reduction in regular salaries somewhere down the road.
