re: I don't know how good or bad the FCAT is. I am sure its the equivalent of the WASL here in Seattle. Its the critical assessment for the No Child Left Behind program, a program teachers do not like.

It seems to me that teaching isn't about memorizing a bunch of stuff... it's about teaching how to learn on your own and to think and reason. You can't test that... but my favorite teachers were the ones that challenged me to think independently.

I don't have kids so it's not a major issue for me (excpet I'm paying taxes for other peoples kids), but it seems like the system has gone from a personal thing to an assembly line.

Knowledge, IMHO, doesn't come in a can.
