Are you saying that if they attack each other, thereby forcing the US out through Vietnam style frustration, then they coexist together after we're gone? I'm not following your logic.

I do see desperate behavior. If they insist on being our enemy, it's just about the only weapon they have.

Why not just live and let live?

The ones with the most to lose are the local Sunni. If the Salafi extremists get their wish and push Iraq into a full scale civil war, the Shia will do to the Sunni what the Sunni did to them under Saddam Hussein.
