Really, the only motivation I can see is that Bush is somehow making a huge pile of bucks on the deal to compensate for all the political damage. To threaten his first veto over THIS? He doesn't seem to care about Republican futures, the '06 congressional elections or his "legacy".

I can't believe Bush would even try this. More republicans will leave the party.
He clearly doesn't get the border thing. On many levels.


I sense that by granting the ports, he was returning a favor of some sort and they thought they could get it through quietly.

What I find very interesting is how many leaks there are in this WH. There must be many people within the administration who do not approve of what is being done. I worry about what we don't know.
