So you're assuming that having a child welfare system run by the government CAUSES torture and murder? Why don't you assume (since you don't know and neither do I) that the child welfare system SAVES many children from that fate but it cannot save all children. If there was a strong welfare system that offered free child care and living wage jobs for these families, don't you think that would save more children? There's another trial for the Texas mother who drowned her 5 children. She had a house, her husband had a job and her children are dead. It happens but it's a rare occurrence. How does the torture/murder situation in NZ get better by dismantling the welfare sytem? Where would people go? What private organization is going to step in and do the work?
