Ed,

I wonder if one reason the oil sands stocks did so well in January is that the cost of one of their primary feedstocks, natgas, went down so dramatically, especially in comparison to the selling price of their product.

could be. i was making that same guess in late January as noted below. Don Coxe had some other theory, i think it was the increasing likelihood that the SEC will recognize oil sands as reserves so the majors will bid for them. imo, reading between the lines of Coxe, he thinks SU will get bought out at some point.

re: SU outperformance, my wholely unsubstantiated WAG is that it is a perceived beneficiary of a wider spread between NG and crude, as lower NG prices relative to CL should improve their margins (i'm guessing the degree of improvement is greater than that seen at COS). or else maybe there are takeover rumors, or chart chasers; who knows.
fwiw SU is my third largest position, after VLO and COS.

Ed, notice anything new in the AEN release from yesterday?

Just can't seem to grasp the PNG work they're doing, chances for success, timing, etc.

TIA for any elaboration....O-rose
