Al, another benefit of not having to present alternatives is this: You can join forces with those who think Bush is incompetent but whose political alignment is totally different than yours. Just ask John Fowler and Jim McMannis.

It does become quite a burden defending Bush, however. The controversy over the ports deal, for example, might be much more about politics than about substantial security issues, but there is no excuse for the Bush administration to ignore the politics. And it's quite silly to claim that Bush is all about results over politics, because after a while, we need to see some results.
