Vodafone in talks to sell to Softbank

Maybe Vodafone can get their shareholders off their back and concentrate on being competitive in Europe. The Japan competition has been too tough, even on the more Japan-savvy operators.

NTT DoCoMo Inc., Japan's biggest mobile-phone operator, has the worst performing stock over the past three years among companies with market values of more than $50 billion. [Merck is second] .Shareholders are demanding more of the company's cash as compensation.

Lower phone-service prices have hurt shares of DoCoMo and its largest rivals, KDDI Corp. and the U.K.'s Vodafone Group Plc. ....

The first WCDMA handsets are now available from Cingular. The Samsung ZX10 and LG CU320 are both priced at $99 after rebate.
