<<I once made a dog house for a new puppy we acquired.>>

I made one for one really good Lab. If I shot it he brought it back.

Cousin was a highway engineer, got me several sheets of new 7/8 waxed sheets of plywood. Made it 6'x3' with the floor raised 6" plus a water proof over hang . 2' wide entry then into a 3'x4' sleeping room. Had wood chips in there. Added a wool blanket when a -20 degree storm moved in. Midnight and I got worried and checked, the dog was out in the kennel chewing on the blanket. The dog never slept out again.

Funny thing, that year the snow got fence high and Junior never left his kennel. Had a rabbit buddy who would show up and they'd go nose to nose in friendship over the now buried fence.

Dogs are so great! Wonder why he got so attached to the blanket? Did his mom leave him too early?
