WoW, W2....that was one of the best posts I've seen on SI in quite some time. Thanks for your thoughts...

The journalists ARE supposed to be professionals. But most don't act like they know that. Rather, they act like children, and very rude children at that.

I totally agree with you here:

There is absolutely no excuse for the outrageous, often treacherous behavior of far too many of today's journalists & politicians. NONE!

I guess one could use the word "rant" to describe your posts, But I thought this response and your other responses were well written, correct on the ultimate facts, although of an advocate nature.

Your last post also makes good points. I actually forwarded your responses to some friends of mine of different political persuasions.

Your work here and in countering the false information, propaganda, perceptions out there in the news is worthwhile.

Some things to consider:

1. As you stated finding out all the facts to make a decision on the merits is an exhaustive time consuming affair which in my opinion not even the pols and jounalists, editorial guys do. Time constraints, prejudices, biases add to the challange.

2. On the subject of ethics and integrity: one writer I read studied the worlds areas and concluded that corruption, bribes, "fees", misstatements, puffing, etc is the way most of the world works in most of the societies in business, politics etc. Politicians here are no different nor editors. They say and do what will appeal to their readers , base etc regardless of knowing better as to the facts, policy. So yes, I agree with you on their knowledge generally and state of mind but such is the way of the world. One must counter it but not get mad about it. Tigers act like tigers. Remember Don Juan's story about the guy who was mad at people for the way they acted. Don Juan took him out to the forest and a Tiger chased him up a tree. There he spent a cold difficult night. When the tiger left in the morning, the fellow climbed down the tree and Don Juan asked him if he was mad at the Tiger. And he said NO.

You write very well. Writing must be part of your profession.

Rich

I think this statement in your post is an incorrect assumption.

These politicians & journalists are expected to have a considerably deeper understanding of every issue & fully inform the public of the pros & the cons. Not only do they have exponentially better access to all of the facts & evidence, they have large staffs who are required to be on top of these issues before they inform the public. And they are expected to not only be ethical, but adhere to certain prescribed ethical standards at all times.

It is the way it should be but isn't. Not only do they not have a deeper and correct understanding but do not adhere to ethical standards as well. In stocks, I know at times a lot about a certain company or tech process. Then I read in the WSJ or a respected analysts report an article and it is often incorrect on the facts. I have E-Mailed some of them pointing out the errors. Try preparing for a trial as an attorney. The time required to know and get the facts and understand just one small issue is enormous. We are still trying to find out for sure why the concrete canal walls broke in NO i.e. The professors and Army Core of Engineers have different theories.

But I do agree that the false statements and info and conclusions and thus opinions are very frustrating.
