On one of the fox business shows there was some disagreement on this issue. I am under the impression its union workers. What i meant was that it might be a deterrent for US entrepreneurs to start a business that has union labor. Maybe lack of roc for a start up makes it unattractive wheras existing port mgt co. from abroad perhaps with their own govt subsidies makes same thing a sweetheart opportunity.
Bottom line is how vulnerable we judge our ports to be. Again i have heard guys like schumer go nuts on port security and others say, ports really are pretty secure as most questionable cargo is examined and the rest is deemed safe.
I do not know enough to know for sure but as of now, expertise is in foreign handsa and after kartrina i wonder what the learning curve would be for the US to get this right and how much safer would anyway if we did.
By the way GE should do damn well in india with nuke plants.
Indian move to nuke energy will reduce demand their demand for oil, thus oil prices will come down. Maybe the answer is to pacify our greens and drill elsewhere and pacify the nuke industry by getting plants built in less developed countries while we sop up excess oil. Isnt it great that energy is fungible? What do you think??

They all use the same unionized longshoremen, no matter who's managing the port. Some longshoremen make six figures. They're very plum jobs.
