I wont bang you too hard for that. Yes a democratic and federal iraq would be a great win but if thats not going to be the case, we have to go to Plan B. A fair as opposed to good outcome would not be that devastating for us. I think worse case now is three state and i think the sunni part will be more baath than terrorist. Hopefully we can have a better than fair outcome but it will never be what we hoped for intitially. No flowers for the conquering westerners and no love lost between the factions are the two things we overlooked. That led to rummys war on the cheap. Perhaps if we had followed Powell rather than rummy and used Gulf war type force levels we would be in better shape. Actually i dont believe that either.

The war in Iraq is only one battlefield in the war against Islamo-Fascism.

The war against Islamo-Fascism must be fought by moderate Muslims. All we are doing in Iraq is making it much more difficult for them, because those who side with Americans are viewed as Quislings. That plus stirring up long lasting hatred of us. Whats the point?

"But pulling out of Iraq without leaving the foundation of democratic structure and accountable government there would be a DEVASTATING defeat for us."

Uhh? Didn't I hear this same crapola 35 years ago, only then, the country in question was Vietnam?
