I've gone after them several times. Usually if you show up with some good documentation, they will give you a break. They really don't expect to many people to contest.

In general, property taxes are a limiting factor in home pricing. When FL and CA give caps for early comers it removes that limiting factor resulting in the bubbles we've seen being more exaggerated.
