I dont think the winner in iraq will be zarquawi. For them to win, iraq or sunni part of iraq would have to accept or at least be open to, talibanization. I think sunni rump state if it comes to that will be run by nationalist/baathists. Shiaa will be pro-iran and pro iraqi shiaa, not exactly good recruiting grounds for al q. Kurds are also not open to al quaeda. Losing iraq as we envisioned it will be embarrassing but nothing strategic will necessarily be lost. A worse case is to be there with our hands tied as the insurgency morphs into civil war. And this is the al quaeda goal i think--so lets get out of the way and do the timetable that is asked of us by the next iraqi govt.
