VRB-ESS Sale to Government of Canada for High Profile Evaluation with Remote Wind-Diesel Applications

Vancouver, B.C. (March 8, 2006) – VRB Power Systems Inc. (TSX-V: VRB) is pleased to announce the sale of a 10 kilowatt-hour VRB Energy Storage System to the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). A 10kWh unit contains the approximate power and energy to support an average size household for several hours.

This VRB unit will undergo evaluation by the NRC’s Institute for Chemical Process and Environmental Technology (ICPET) in partnership with Natural Resources Canada’s CANMET Energy Technology Centre (NRCan-CETC) to assess the potential of the VRB-ESS in off-grid applications for a number of Canadian Government Agencies.

VRB Power President, Vince Sorace said “The opportunities within the Coastal and Northern Regions of Canada for off-grid applications coupling the VRB-ESS with diesel and wind generation are very significant and important potential markets for the Company. This evaluation process will demonstrate the potential of the VRB technology for off-grid applications and we intend to work very closely with Canadian Government Agencies in pursuit of widespread applications for small and large VRB Energy Storage Systems.”

“This process will also provide a high profile, independent third-party performance evaluation of the VRB technology for other potential VRB Power customers and will assist in the identification and simulation of other promising early market opportunities, facilitating their adoption. These market applications will address issues such as renewable energy support and electricity demand management, which are areas of focus of the Canadian government in its goal of reducing diesel fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions,” concluded Sorace

The evaluation work will also be supported with funding from the Decentralized Energy Production area of the Canadian Government’s Climate Change Technology and Innovation program. The 10kWh VRB-ESS is scheduled for delivery end of March 2006.

About VRB Power
Headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, VRB Power Systems Inc. (“VRB Power”) is an electrochemical energy storage company that is commercializing the patented VRB™ Energy Storage System (“VRB-ESS™”) and has acquired the intellectual property rights comprising the Regenesys Energy Storage System (“RGN-ESS™”). Both technologies represent a new enabling capability to effectively store large amounts of electricity on demand. They can provide direct economic benefits to utilities and end users in terms of improved power quality, reliability and energy efficiency and are particularly well suited to load levelling (peak shaving), electrical power arbitrage, grid stability enhancements, capital deferment and Remote Area Power Supply (RAPS) applications. The VRB-ESS is focused towards stationary applications such as utility substations, commercial buildings, production facilities, telecommunication operations, cellular radio sites and renewable resource generation such as wind and solar applications, where its utilization creates the ability to provide “firm” capacity. As a “green” technology, the VRB-ESS is characterized by having a low ecological impact and is unlike most other conventional energy storage systems that rely on toxic substances such as lead or cadmium. VRB Power is publicly listed on the TSX Venture Exchange (“VRB”) and the OTC Pinksheets (“VRBPF”).

I used the dip yesterday to double our position. Orders are picking up and with the new sales and marketing staff in place the trend would be for more orders soon. Bob Bishop said in his last alert, "I have not felt so confident in the company's ability to deliver in a very long time." (Bishop's emphasis.) John Davis seems like he has the right background for the Director of Sales job.
