What the brave thinking world understood from the first and what the less brave, less thoughtful world is quickly coming to understand is that foolish policies supported by foolish, scared silly people like yourself have virtually guaranteed that "Islamo-Fascist ideology [will] capture the imagination of even more Muslim youth"

Actually, I would opine that it has been the lack of action by previous administrations, (or even internationally) since the mid-1990s to just ignore the ideological shifts and trends that were developing in the Mid-East.

Hell, look what happened when we played "live and let live" with regard to Afghanistan!! The Taliban took over without our offering any opposition, and almost immediately it was used as a training groung and base from which to DIRECTLY ATTACK the US and Europe!!

And this was ALL prior to the US invasion of Iraq. An ENTIRE NATION of 20 million people was being Talibanized by Islmamo-Fascists, providing a large manpower pool from which to support their attacks, and intimidate their neighbors.

But guess what.. now they don't possess that country, NOR do I believe we would permit a return of an Islamo-Fascist regime there.

And although you fail to recognize, or deliberately deny it, Iraq was gradually becoming the same way, despite the power of Saddam Hussein.

Hell, he was harboring Al Qai'da affliated groups like Ansar Al Islam (now Ansar Al Sunnah) because he was afraid that eliminating them would create friction amongst Iraq's ever increasing Salafist population. We had documentation related to IIS involvement with Al Qai'da groups, and it ALSO served Saddam's interest to support terrorist efforts against his rival Saudi Arabia.

But of course you refute all of that because you prefer to have your blinders on.

The reality is that Saddam's base of power amongst Sunnis was increasingly based upon Salafist and Takfirist religious leaders.. He built hundreds of mosques (one of them was HUGE) in an effort to placate them, but there was no doubt his secular hold on power was being undermined and he would be forced to provide further support and tolerance for the Islamo-Fascists in his population.

After all, do you think the religious and logistical network for Zarqawi just emerged overnight? Hell no.. Much of it, I believe, is due to the infiltration of Iraqi institutions by Islamo-Fascist factions, under the guise of being Ba'athist, but in reality are more religiously conservative. And many of these individuals have risen to leadership roles within the Al Qai'da in Iraq network.

And guess where these Islamo-Fascists were also receiving support?? Saudi Arabia.. Because the Wahabbists not only want to overthrow the Saudis, but they want to unify all the Arabs under their rule and I have no doubt that many Sunni Tribal leaders dreamed of being next in line to replace Saddam...

And all of this was happening PRIOR to the US invasion of Iraq, let alone Afghanistan...

All while complacent people like yourself were content to sit on your @sses and not recognize the threat until slapped you in the face..

Hell, even 9/11 hasn't woken you up to reality....

What's it going to take Ed... A chemical attack??
