JDN, Not only were things simpler, but people were different too. They looked after each other, and if needed, went to each other's aid, without waiting for the government to act. Families were a solid institutions, where the parents took care of, and watched over their children, to keep them safe, and on the right track toward adulthood. Remember, when people gasped when Clark Gable said "Scarlet, I don't give a damn"? Do you remember the how the citizens, rationed the items needed by our troops in WWII? Nobody went around bad mouthing our young people that went to war? To help, the civilians planted victory gardens to grow their own food, so the GI's could have a good meal on the battlefield. They flew the American Flag in front of their homes without hesitation.

I could go on, and on, but the gist is, that we now live in a different world, and it damned sure isn't as good as the one back then.
