The warning, which came in discussions with senior Ministry of Finance and Bank of Japan officials, follows complaints by U.S. automakers that Japan keeps the value of the yen artificially low to make its exports more competitive.

I asked before Russ, I will ask again - isn't this what they are SUPPOSED to do - keep the currency weak to increase exports and keep the idle hands busy busy? Isn't population pacification more important than currency strength?

I think one way out of their exports/US treasury model is to accelerate their foreign direct investments.
