Re: "between consenting adults and not children forced into it"

Are you kidding? Children are forced into a marriage all the time. When my wife had two children, they were forced to be a part of our marriage.

Part of the reason against polygamy is its effect on children forced to live in such a household.

Fact is, polygamy is not the norm, and a very few people in the United States practice it. I doubt there are very many "families" of consenting adults out there involved in polygamous groups.

Members of the Fundamental Church of Latter Day Saints (not to be confused with the main LDS church) virtually control Hildale, UT and Colorado City, AZ. They practice polygamy with a particular intensity, with girls as young as 13 or 14 being ordered to "marry" much older men. Essentially, it's institutionalized and community sanctioned pedophilia. They also are very much into welfare fraud.

Read John Krakauer's book, "Under the Banner of Heaven," if you want a good picture of how damaging polygamy, as practiced by the FLDS folks, can be.
