Isn't this the principal of Islam and the man who turned Christian? That because they say their law has the right to kill him because of his religion and that his religion isn't theirs....

It's certainly a touchy issue. I certainly don't agree with their religious views, but neither do I subscribe to the so-called Biblical views of "eye for an eye" either..

The question is whether the reported "doom" lying in wait for the Muslim Apostate should be spiritual doom, rather than mortal doom at the hands of other Muslims.

The Koran speaks of rhetorical doom, whereas the Hadith seems to speak of it being the obligation of a Muslim to kill an apostate.

Personally, we need to protect the individual, even if it means offering him "pyschological" treatment in the US and then offering him political asylum.

This is quite a stink because this backward thinking from a so-called religion of mercy sets the stage for a distinct loss of support for assisting muslim people to have democratic reforms.

Intelligent people, and intelligent christians, recognized the value of free will. If a christian wants to become a Muslim, I can't stop them, nor would I. Everyone has a responsibility to find God in their own manner, even if incorrect, IMO. But NO ONE has the right to punish someone for what religion they choose.

However, my limited reading on the issue is that the Afghanis recommende that the individual be assessed as mentally ill so that they could avoid the embarrassment of having some of the more intolerant aspects of their religios dirty laundry revealed in public.
