Sometimes it is, sometimes it's not Mike.. And we did go to war with the "godless Chinese", or more appropriately, they went to war with us, when we ventured too close to their border while advancing into N. Korea. And they suffered over 150,000 dead and a total of 850,000 other casualties because of it.paulnoll.com As for N. Korea, it's estimated that 2-3 million people starved to death during the '90's. dailynk.com This should remind us that war is not the only grim way for people to die. And sometimes loss of life in war prevents greater loss of life in the future. Look at Pol Pot.. 2 million dead there in the killing fields. And how about China's "Cultural Revolution"? Millions more dead because of a power struggle within the Chinese Communist party:marxists.de And then there is Rummel's destined to be a classic compilation of research on "Democide", killings that are state-sponsored, and mostly internal (although he does include figures derived from actual warfare between different states) .hawaii.edu What's clear is that the killing doesn't stop merely because we're considered "at peace". All that has happened is that the totalitarian regime in question is no longer hampered in the repression of its population. Now granted, I recognize that we can't fight to free everyone. I'm not even that devoted to democracy. But when someone who practices a particular ideology declares that they they want to destroy and conquer me so that they can subjugate me to their religious or political power, then I'd say they are fair game and have a right to die for their beliefs. And I'm more than happy to speed them on their way to Allah (or whoever).. And Islamo-Fascists attacked this country on 9/11 and declared a state of war with the US. So doesn't it stand to reason that ignoring them is to our peril? Mike.. When discussing the subject of religious militancy with others while in Iraq, I'd commonly tell them that I have "two bullets" for any religious extremist, whether they be Bin Laden, Tim McVeigh, or Eric Rudolph. Anyone who believes they have the right to impose a particular religious belief upon someone else upon pain of death really needs to be eliminated from the intellectual and physical gene pool.. Some people believe that all muslims are intolerant. But I would say that I've met a number of Muslims here in the US who don't share those extremist views. Maybe they're just lying to me, but I would like to believe that they are being honest. But I'll two bullets waiting for them, the first time I see them attempt to violently impose their spiritual beliefs upon me or someone else I know. I'd rather not have to use two bullets.. (they're getting expensive).. But if they continue to force the issue as they did on 9/11, then I'm willing to confront them until they understand just who the hell they are messing with. Hawk
