Thanks elmat, That sounds like what the fellow on the business channel was talking about but he stated that huge savings could be realised by remotely updating the software as opposed to 'engineers' going around to the boxes...

Similar to me downloading and updating my motherboard's programmable BIOS chip as opposed to requiring a new chip installed each time I needed to update my BIOS with a new revision... (but how often does that happen).. although I needed to do it a few times with my router..

Like I posted to Mq, I have no clue as to how much of a real savings this would be... ie the implications beyond the simple need for the physical work if the need arises... how often would the need arise ? Is there a big demand for services that that this would facilitate etc... What really are these services ? I guess I need a primer but since the cowboy wild west days of programming and computers are long gone.. I've not touched or needed to understand much beyond basic networking etc.. I have not laid any cable or whipped up any cable ends on the fly in many years :o)
