Mediocre is what you find most, in every profession.

The evidence of students not meeting the standard per the San Jose Mercury article would confirm your statement above.

Why, then is the answer to throw more money at a profession that fosters "mediocrity"?

The teacher's union needs to suck it up and help the school administrations get rid of the incompetent and mediocre types. To quote - "not going to happen".

BTW, the point about Escalante was that he did not whine about not having funds. He was focused on saving kids.

BBTW, Shaq was a poor example. The NBA gets rid of coaches and players that perform in a mediocre manner.

But in education, the mediocre to downright inept are
protected by tenure. Market forces weed out the mediocre
and inept in other fields.
