In the Gulf war if we had marched to bagdad, it was pre-big terror and the shiaa and the kurds would have greeted us with as liberators. Sunnis might have behaved more like defeated germans back then and some good sunnis might have participated in reconstruction. Whats scary is that the IRAQ war somehow justifies Bush 41 caution back in 1990. Perhaps the lesson is that when you have someone on the edge of total defeat you go for the kill and dont allow them a chance to regroup. We always take wrong lessons out of earlier wars.

That is certainly one opinion. I think Bush 1 made the right call on that, myself.
