Elroy,
Now wait a minute. <grin> I am not going to pretend that Reagan was any saint either but I have read somewhere about how he financed that ranch and it seemed above board to me. Reagan had income, royalty income from his old movies and he was well paid for his "General Electric Theater" work. And I think that Nancy came into a pretty big inheritance from her daddy.

The thing of this sort that Reagan did that was really bad was his $2 million gratuity he recieved from Sony AFTER he left office, supposedly to pay for his city house for which he would have been unable to buy without selling his ranch. I think the idea was that Reagan by this time was clearly in his dotage and that it was a sort of "charitable act" by the Japanese. But Clinton has REALLY raked in the loot in his private life, mucho more than Reagan. Reagan set a bad precendent though, with the Sony deal.

But you never said how Pete Wilson recieved his pay offs? I am curious about the mechanics of the operation. How was it done?

Ronald Reagan - I believe that Ronald Reagan made over $300,000 in 1934 ! He made a similar income the next few years

With that time, pretty much any investment - Los Angeles real estate, stocks, even some corporate bonds, would have done well.

Income tax rate was pretty low then too.
