"If that happens the damage is the same but the potential responses are very different. You cannot strike that which you cannot pinpoint. Any attempt to deter the guilty by wholesale killing the innocent is immoral, illegal and, if you take that path, you'll gain nothing and lose much." It will be either al quaeda or iranian sponsered or both. Each will try to blame the other in order to get them attacked instead. Our intel will be key and i know the pitfalls there. In the end there will be a determination made and someone will pay. Whether deterrence will work in the traditional way remains to be seen but deterrence cant be jettisoned because we are never 100% certain. Whats worse than us hitting back is what could happen to this country if we dont. As Rummy once said we are going to have to blow off some steam and better abroad than at home.
