We are making the same mistake with the Islamo-Facists, Castro, Chavez, etc. That's like saying attempting to arrest organized criminals only encourages more crime... Neo.. I know you're not that naive. Hitler was not opposed by the democratic world, and he and his ideology didn't go away. Pol Pot didn't go away.. (the Vietnamese finally overthrew him.) Stalin didn't go away (he had to die in office)... Castro is STILL in power... Saddam had to be overthrown.. the Iranian Fundamentalist still rule Iran (hopefully with less certainly in future years). I truly believe that you underestimate the ability of totalitarian regimes to maintain their power. I mean.. look at Iran. Just when it appeared that reformists and moderates were winning seats in their government, 2500 candidates were thrown out, and we eventually wound up with the Apocalyptic Ahmadinejad. It's not that we're "giving them a cause". These people have their own cause, revolving around their religious beliefs, not merely US "interference". The US is merely a convenient justification and scapegoat that they use to cloak their true agendas and political ambitions. They are on a religious Jihad and the only reason they have sought to attack the US is because we're the only true super-power with the wherewithal and moral values that are willing to stand in their way. It just doesn't matter if we leave them alone Neo... That's actually what they want... They want the US to retreat from the region and the minute that we do, it will leave them confident that we won't have the urge to get involved in the Mid-East for the foreseeable future. And why wouldn't they believe this? Afterall, we're reknowned for hesitating and questioning our own moral compass. Ahmadinejad and the other Islamo-Fascists will really love having the pressure lifted off of them. But hey Neo... if you're not convinced that Islamo-Fascists don't represent a major regional or global threat... I guess we can always check each other's predictions in a few years and see who's right. That's assuming we actually cut and run from the region. Hawk
