This was inevitable and it would happen in any country in Europe had a group of people who were illegally in the country protested, demanded better treatment and carried flags from their home country rather than than the country in which they are residing illegally. In fact its happened in Germany without protest marches by Turks. Wrong... DEAD wrong! Racial/ethnic dynamics play out differently in Europe than it does in the US. Did you notice, for instance, that, following last fall's riots when ghetto youths ran amuck rampaging, looting, arsoning and --in one case at least-- killing, there were no, absolutely NO white-on-nonwhite violence? I mean, just compare that to what happened in Australia in December 2005:Message 21964362 France's ghetto youths --most of them Muslim nonwhites-- wreaked damage of over $234 million(*) and yet, we didn't see "angry white Frenchmen" indulging in retaliatory violence against minorities... Even today, as preppy mass demonstrations are allegedly disrupted --some say "polluted"-- by ghetto troublemakers bent on harassing and racketting anti-CPE students(**), you don't hear about ratonnades (darkey-bashing) by white vigilantes. As for threats against lawmakers and official/government facilities by rightwing extremists, well, no... things in Europe have not deteriorated that far. Actually, the only far-right extremists who occasionally resort to physical violence are Jewish activists from Betar, the JDL, Likoud de France, etc. They physically assaulted agro-Luddite José Bové on his return from Ramallah in 2004(?) and they vandalized Arab shops during the demonstration in memory of the murdered Ilan Halimi.... And again, you don't --and won't-- hear of any self-appointed Minutemen patrolling the Mediterranean and the seafronts of Spain, France, Italy,..., prowling after illegals. EU countries will never allow trigger-happy nuts to take border control into their hands! Just as they will never allow cash-strapped individuals to print their own rolls of euronotes! Gus (*) washingtonpost.com (**) One big concern is over security. During previous marches demonstrators have been attacked by troublemakers. Some students have been given the task of protecting others during the rally, Mr Vacheron says. Violence during the protests has been blamed on various groups - far-right activists, anarchists and sundry outsiders. But the apparent involvement of some youths from the immigrant suburbs of Paris - who carried out their own uprising last November - divides the current protesters. "It breaks my heart that thugs are trying to destroy the movement," says Mr Vacheron. "They too are the victims of economic insecurity. The protests are aimed at helping them!" But others see the current protests and the riots that erupted in France's impoverished suburbs last year as two sides of the same coin. [...]newsrss.bbc.co.uk
