Reala also raised taxes, though he called them by a different name. He still left us a whopper deficit, forcing Bush Sr. and Clinton to both raise taxes more.

Much of Reagan's deficit was based on his "free enterprise" deregulation of the S+L's, which Bush's brother had a hand in as well. A 300 billion dollar rip off of the public wealth.

But nothing Reagan did or spent compared to the trillions in ripoffs and borrowing and over-spending going on now.

BTW, guys like Hannity and Limbaugh regularly lie about the revenues Reagan brought in, supposedly by lowering taxes. They deliberately ignore the real math.

Can you give me any figures which support actual military cuts by Reagan (which is what we were talking about), rather than a simple shifting of money to alternative programs? I've always felt his "deficits don't matter" philosophy was a problem. I think he put Bush senior (a president who I actually had some respect for) in a terrible position.

I couldn't find any stats on the net that showed him reducing the military. I didn't look for data on his budgets overall because that wasn't what we were talking about.
