It's not a big step from public executions by the government, to public executions by paramilitary groups- in the minds of the folks involved (I would guess).

I think you can clearly separate out the bombers- because the ME states don't generally do that, but they (ME governments) do kidnap people in the night for execution, or grab them off the street, so that tactic is simply a government tactic also used by insurgents, the paramilitary millitias, etc.

Well, you can call them anything you like but if they're carrying out a fatwa -- a death sentence issued by a Mullah pursuant to Sharia law -- then objectively speaking you aren't correct.

I disagree.

For one thing carrying out a fatwa or not I think they where seeking to inspire terror. And likely the issuer of the fatwa was as well and they are serving as his agents.

If beheading is the only thing that makes the distinction between terrorist and insurgent or whatever name one chooses to call what ultimately results in KILLING, then all of us are terrorists..

Having just watched DREAMLAND a documentary on the soldiers in Iraq and what they go through daily it is illuminating to see how easily a nice young man who says he thinks he will have a hard time killing becomes a killer. If ones buddy or friend is grotesquely killed by a bomb the next Iraq that survivor sees is dead. We forget that emotions are not controlled by sane acts at times and that irrational behavior is often the result.

I an understand this. I think a play upon semantics is just that.. Terrorist,Insurgent..... what's in a name ?

What does it matter anyway. Killing is killing..
