Global Warming and Hurricanes: Still No Connection

Perhaps you could drop these guys a memo, and tell em to stop pushing up premiums and "be happy, don't worry"..

When purchasing home insurance, buy from a company with a high financial rating from such ratings firms as A.M. Best Co. and Weiss Group Inc. to minimize the chance that your insurer will drop you because of its own financial problems or fail to pay a claim. Poe Financial, for example, cited its own financial difficulties from hurricane losses as a reason for pulling back its coverage in Florida.

There is other sage advice..

What to Do
As premiums rise and insurers look to cut risk exposure, industry experts advise consumers to keep a low profile. Self-insure as much as possible by carrying as high a deductible as you can afford to keep premiums low and remain attractive to insurers, they say. Also, avoid filing small or petty claims. Never file a claim for maintenance-related damages such as a chronic water leak; even one such claim could cause you to be dropped by your insurer.

Tell the actuaries they have got thier sums wrong -g-

Myself, I think we will see an increase in extreme weather events as the warming trend continues. Whatever it's orgins, natural or manmade.

I would argue the case that less fat people in Europe & USA and more trees in the Amazon jungle could only possibly benifit the people struck with hurricane force premiums for house insurance in the USA.

Same with flood insurance in the UK. Some houses get flooded straight after the insurance work is completed cleaning up from the last event.

This webpage provides an overview of ABI's work on flooding issues. It sets out how the insurance industry is working with the Government and other stakeholders to ensure that flood risk is effectively managed, so that flood insurance remains readily available to the vast majority of customers. The webpage includes key ABI policy papers and policy positions.

If you live in a flood-risk area, or if you are at immediate risk of flooding, please check the Information Zone to find out what to do and who to contact.

Others might say it's God's wrath against Western countries for eating too much junk food and being so blase about the environment.
