"Impeach Bush! He broke the law to tell you the truth!"

I never cease to be amazed at the propensity of the American left for shooting itself in the foot. Thank God, they remain clueless. Most people do not realize how big it is; I know this because if the majority did, they would fear it a bit more if they do. They don't realize because of how self-destructive it has been for decades.

The lastest grenade they have popped the pin on, then swallowed eagerly, is the new Libby-testimony-encouraged Fitzmas gift of an accusation that the President leaked info on Wilson.

Leave aside, for a second, objections on if the President can actually leak classified information, since he has the ultimate authority over what is, and is not, classified.

The left is arguing that the President should get nailed for revealing to the public a truth-- that Wilson's wife was involved in sending him to Niger.

"Impeach Bush! He broke the law to tell you the truth!"

That's their argument, in a nutshell. Of course, he broke no law, but that's beside the point. Whatever he did, it was to let the public know something that was true, and was germane to accusations being made that could have been used to undermine the Presidency.

They want to nail the President for letting the public know a fact the left wanted to stay hidden.

They wanted to keep the public from knowing, so that the public would accept their arguments, which Wilson was conveniently peddling.

They want everyone believe that the motive for this was to get back at Wilson. Get back at him by telling a truth. A truth that would be so devastating to Wilson so as to cause him harm.

It hardly makes sense to get back at someone by doing something harmless to them. Ergo, this is a tacit admission that the truth was harmful to Wilson, and by extension his friends on the left who were (and some still are) touting him.

So they are arguing that the President broke the law to tell the public a truth that they believe was devastating to Joe Wilson.

Joe Wilson, who happens to be someone who has been trying to help Democrats in any way he can. And is the darling of their left flank.

And they wonder why they end up losing. (0-19 by one measure for one small part of the flank)

And they don't think the public will figure that out, at least not before election day. I have a rather strong suspicion that, come November, we are going to have one of the more surprising election nights in a long time (at least as viewed from 7 months away; by September the difference from now may be obvious).
