Assuming you are right, this still would be a major defeat for the US national interest. Folks like McCain see it that way and i agree. But there is a point as in vietnam when just wishing, hoping and praying for a good outcome isnt enough and ones interest is better served by looking in the mirror and being honest with oneself. We will never know, will we if the neocons got it wrong or were sandbagged by Rummy's vision of war on the cheap uber alles. Losing this war will have huge ramifications for us in the mideast for decades to come. None of us who were opposed to the war should be smug about the result and none of us who supported the war should succumb to vietnam type syndrome because the war on terror is very real while falling dominoes in SEA was not. Lumping the two together in our thinking would be a grave error.
