Well gg, allow me to start with I somehow missed your post..so the late response. Sounds like you must have a good 3D life also to keep you busy ... that's good :o)

My wife and I as well as our two kids get regular checkups.. For emergency things we go to the walk in clinic. We don't fool with health. My wife has had to wait many many months for gastric tests... Wonderful she only had IB and not some sort of stomach or colon cancer. As to the hip replacement... do you think it is done before it's absolutely needed ... as a precaution, proactively ? I do not believe that is the case.. You need to live with the pain to get you up on the list from what I've been told by two folks I know that have had the surgery..

Yes all aspects... (even the icky ones LOL) like I said we go regularly. Doesn't really matter for many cancers though. A family doctor annual visit is just not enough. Heck our 2 doggies and cats also get annual physicals :O) No fooling.
BTW we had a cat a dozen years back that got a clean bill of health and then died four months later of lung cancer... poor thing never smoked a day in her life... but I used to be a heavy smoker... I still feel guilty.. Thirteen years quit now.

A grade 12 education on the taxpayer is not to shabby
Yes but a grade 12 education is not really what they get... just a diploma... What is the quality ? Ontario has a 30% dropout rate. Do high school kids learn basic money management. or other life skills in that vein ? Nope. For some kids grade 12 as it is is sufficient, but not all and many don't get that.

what is wrong with the family then taking responsibility for further education.
My kids are lucky. French immersion, Mandarin classes (we all take that, gotta lead by example), They ski, skate, swim and other sports well. We are not talking olympians here but great by normal standards. (Most kids could do well also with similar opportunities)

I'm demanding. They need to do their best.
My daughter will drop French immersion in high school as she has been accepted to a School for the arts. She has a talent and I think it should be developed. Life is easier with options but she will need to maintain her academics..

My kids have an advantage.

You know if all kids are playing some sports and getting more exercise .. they are healthier. Should that not impact the healthcare system ? I'm taking care of my own at any rate BUT if the entire population is healthier and smarter.. is that not going to make for a better, tougher and more competitive society in the global sense... Will our health care not cost less ? Will our population not be more in demand in general... They are now in the oil exploration and mining worlds... This is not really about some misguided altruism on my part... in the end it's really about quality of life leading to both more wealth and ultimately cost savings :O)

Maybe I'm a dreamer... but in my experience good enough only gets worse... or as Bruce sang..

We had part of this conversation before I recollect :O)
