""For emergency things we go to the walk in clinic."" Nice that one is available. What is the cost to you? "We don't fool with health" In Canada, no need to..what is the cost to you? Will you go bankrupt from a catastrofic illness?? ""My wife has had to wait many many months for gastric tests... Wonderful she only had IB and not some sort of stomach or colon cancer."" Maybe the symptoms given to the doctor were such that with all information given, IB was what he suspected ..so not a priority.Sometimes we have to have a little faith in those that have studied and worked in the field for years...also keeping in mind they are human and prone to mistakes as we are. ""As to the hip replacement... do you think it is done before it's absolutely needed ... as a precaution, proactively ?" No it is not, I have a friend who is in the system with O Arthritis of the knee and was told to wait as long as possible...so that it only had to be done once (age considerations) ..they wear out ..a replacement of a replacement...ain't so easy.He will get a knee replacement but it will be his decision...when.He lives with the pain daily...Oh to wave a magic wand eh? ""You need to live with the pain to get you up on the list from what I've been told by two folks I know that have had the surgery.."" You said it..HAD.. the surgery..example...plus.. Plus.. for our healthcare system..How much did it cost them??I asked Andrew to think back on all encounters that friends and family have had with our health care system and come up with a ratio ..positives to negatives..here....Message 22317788 ""Doesn't really matter for many cancers though. A family doctor annual visit is just not enough."" It does matter for many cancers though. If the annual checkup is not enough...what would you suggest ...dail;y monitoring!!When you have annual checkups you are laying down the personal numbers, statistics, data that... believe it or not.. family doctor pays attention too....PSA numbers, cholesterol numbers, blood numbers...rising, falling numbers..like a stock chart..giving him information in a glance..to send you on to a specialist..to fix or head off the problem so it does not lead to catastrofic illness at young age leading to extreme burden on system for many years. """A grade 12 education on the taxpayer is not to shabby Yes but a grade 12 education is not really what they get... just a diploma... What is the quality ? Ontario has a 30% dropout rate. Do high school kids learn basic money management. or other life skills in that vein ? Nope. For some kids grade 12 as it is is sufficient, but not all and many don't get that."" What to do?What to do?Can say aberacadabera and hope to fix all problems. ""We had part of this conversation before I recollect :O)"" Yes, we did<<gg>> gg
