gg,

IB was what he suspected ..so not a priority Say that to my wife and she'd deck you :o)... She suffers a lot from it and she is no wimp... Things do not need to kill you to be debilitating enough to ruin your quality of life...

I have kidney stones.. been aware of them since twenty.. now weeks away from 50.. I also suffer from osteoporosis (related to stones).. I'm quite knowledgeable on the topic... My family doctor made an appointment for me at St Mikes in Toronto... close to 6 month wait time.. so I guess that in my mind is just not good enough. (I still take all the jumps I can skiing :O) Secondly.. the specialist put me on Fosamax (like all the old ladies do :O) which is fine (so I thought :o(

Merck faces suit over Fosamax

By Associated Press | April 13, 2006

NEW YORK -- Merck & Co, which is already facing a raft of cases over its pain reliever Vioxx, may need to hire additional attorneys to fight a recently filed lawsuit alleging the company was negligent in promoting its osteoporosis drug Fosamax.

According to a lawsuit filed Monday in US District Court in Fort Myers, Fla., Fosamax is a defective product because it can cause osteonecrosis of the jaw, or a rotting of the jaw bone. The suit, which seeks class action status, alleges that Merck concealed and continues to hide Fosamax's potentially dangerous side effects from patients and doctors.

In a statement, Merck said that in all of its clinical trials of Fosamax, which have included over 17,000 patients, it has not had any reports of osteonecrosis of the jaw.

Merck shares fell 21 cents to $33.85 on the New York Stock Exchange.

Guess I should just go back to weight training...

. It causes regeneration of bone density (calcium) She was reticent (remember I am quite knowledgeable on kidney stones, at least my type) when I spoke with her about me taking extra vitamin D, I take 1200 IU. She said it would cause more stone formation... so I gave the 2 minute spiel on calcium stones.. She remained reticent.. while I waited to book my 1 year followup (much to her credit I will say) she came back after doing some quick checking and told me I was correct and that I should indeed continue with the extra vitamin D. Frankly I was amazed and dismayed that she only found that out through me.. as opposed to dazed and confused.. Being a bone specialist she should have been up on that tidbit.. (The Vitamin D)

Now I have 8 months to wait and find out if my jawbone is disintegrating... ???? :o( stay or go ? spots.kicks-ass.org

but it will be his decision The two folks I know waited long and wondered why because again their freedom from pain and new mobility gave them back their lives.. (their words).. I guess it's subjective...

Plus.. for our healthcare system..How much did it cost them? I really do not understand how you can make that statement...

Remember I am not a booster of the US system but just because ours is free.. HEY! wait a minute ! of course it is not and that is precisely the problem..... :o) each and every year BILLIONS of your money and my money and all Canadians that pay taxes here (unless you are Paul Martin <NG>) money disappears into the health care system.. mostly the solutions have been throw more money at it.. efficiencies ? Seems that is only heard about in Alberta.. I will admit that finally the government (Ontario) is actually announcing where some of the new money is going... (why I'm still giving McGinty the benefit of the doubt).

So I guess it costs me lot our free health care.. and just like anything I buy I expect value.. but we are hemmed in by bureaucracy (federal health department as Mr. Duceppe kindly reminded us), how many millions or worse in graft (see MIRAMICHI, N.B), and the complacency of those that think it is free so mediocre is good enough... sigh ..

I guess we'll need to agree to doisagree on this one gg.. I do think your viewpoint is too complacent..

Al
