8:57AM Lehman ups global handset sales forecasts by Tomi Kilgore
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Lehman Bros. raised its global handset forecasts for 2006 and 2007, citing evidence of continued strength in subscriber growth rates. Analyst Tim Luke now expects sales of 950 million units in 2006 and 1 billion units in 2007. He had previously forecasted sales of 879 million units in 2006 and 942 million in 2007. "According to our checks, net subscriber additions in various emerging market regions have actually accelerated during the March quarter," Luke said. "On the handset front, out discussions with management at various leading distributors and component vendors support our outlook of better-than-seasonal trends, and in some cases, suggest our outlook may be somewhat conservative as global units may even be flat following the robust fourth quarter."
